Child And Adolescent Anxiety Treatment

This is a precious age range as online gaming, chatting and posting on social media becomes more normalized and common. It is important to understand how these stressors, coupled with peer pressures, bullying and academic stress can contribute towards your child's ability to manage stress.

Our Kids Need More Support Than Ever

Our Kids Need More Support Than Ever

Worry in children and adolescents can show up in so many different ways. You may notice that your child is more tearful, upset, irritable or having trouble settling down and is often in need of constant reassurance. You may notice an increase in tearfulness, worry thoughts that continues to surface or a new avoidance of certain situations or activities. During sessions with me, I work to create a playful and supportive environment in order to assist your child or adolescent in building up their tool box for calming and coping with life stressors. Visuals and educational materials are also often sent home and practice during the week is strongly encouraged in order to promote success.

There is Hope

Therapy can offer hope for children struggling with anxiety. During our therapy sessions, I will guide your child toward understanding and managing their “worry thoughts”. In addition, I will assist in teaching coping strategies tailored to your child’s unique needs, while helping him or her navigate stress.. I strive to provide a safe, playful and nurturing environment where your child can express fears and worries openly, while gaining a sense of validation and empowerment. With the tools acquired in therapy, your child will have the opportunity to build resilience and confidence and learn to face challenges. Therapy offers a pathway toward healing and growth while instilling hope.

Play Therapy

Play and Art Therapeutic Interventions: When working with children through adolescents, talk therapy can be, but is not always, the most effective method to engage and assist in promoting self expression. Therefore, I utilize a creative system to deliver evidence based treatment interventions in a fun and connected way. Specific tools utilized include paint, drawing, music, games, stretching and more. During this time, I fuse in the practice of calming and meditational activities which, over time, can build a sense of peace and calm.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a treatment modality that can help individuals of all ages work to identify and heal negative thoughts that promote symptoms of depression and anxiety. Through age appropriate interventions tailored to each child’s individual needs, therapy can assist in identifying specific thought patterns and work to support a more positive outlook.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness refers to a variety of skills meant to assist the mind and body to slow down, reconnect and refresh during times of stress. In our busy world, mindfulness can be a very powerful tool in reducing anxiety symptoms and promoting rest and a sense of wellness.
